The mysteries surrounding Deadly Dream Squad run deep. After recently surfacing as production partners for the elusive post-sleaze-dance band GARYS, Uncle Billy Juice and Meta Greta have a storied history.

Formally known as Ssswift and Ol'Grog, the pair met as members of various beat-making collectives such as the Squat-Hop Quintet from Bristol, the Krust Kore Massiv in Chicago and the now infamous Jurassic Jointz (Lyme Regis).

Before long their sonic gravity drew the attention of the sub-underground, and they were enveloped into the cult-like community of the Lore Drippers.

Here is where our history becomes patchy. Following a successful trio of singles that could only be acquired by sending a blood donation to an empty Bristol address, the pair staged a coup d'etat of the Lore Drippers' Leipzig studio and began to work on their first album.

Years went by and the world heard nothing. Little by little, rumours started to spread. Rumours of extreme genre-bending, rumours of looping samples for days until the engineers fled; rumours of rumours.

Eventually the whole community imploded and the surreal events that followed are well documented. The music however, remained a secret. That is until now.

Through a relationship with GARYS front-person KeV, Pushkins Prefers managed to obtain a landline number for the duo, whose self-imposed exile on the Isle of Skye had apparently been relaxing over recent years. Over the course of hours of conversation, the pair (speaking through a vocoder to mask their identities) eventually agreed to release some of the music under their latest moniker, Deadly Dream Squad.

We received the tapes recently. In the 40+ hours of material, most of it is unintelligible. Intense shards of noise, harsh gnomic ceremonies. One of our fam is currently recovering from PTSD after she spent too long in the company of the tapes.

There were however glimpses of clarity buried in the murk. Working in shifts, we were able to uncover 25 nuggets of largely instrumental beat-oriented music. We are proud to present these to you as Sunlight/Moonlight. Enjoy x

A truly moving artwork, incredibly evocative. The music alone is wonderful (and it seems amazing that Simon has not been making music for long - a talent), but put together with the stories and artefacts it becomes a deeper experience; it almost feels like we’re intruding on something very personal.
